Photos of Things We Lost in Afghanistan

I don’t know why exactly, but this image of Paghman Gardens in Kabul, Afghanistan taken before and after years of conflict is particularly haunting. There is something beyond even the tragic events in that country that seems to speak about the fragility and temporary nature of all human endeavors (perhaps not accidentally, the same feeling can be obtained by looking at 1970’s and 2000’s images of the World Trade Center, in New York).
