Cassette Crafts
Personally we’ve seen enough skull art to last us through several eternities. “Skull Art” was a big thing in the early 2000s, perhaps coming in at the tail end of the Grunge art movement - and probably originating from the music references within the 1990’s LA art scene (it does, of course, have a much longer art history). You still see it limping on in the various remainder bins of art history - art school graduation shows, for example - or the UK art scene (haw haw).
Anyway, I’m not here to talk about skulls, but cassette tapes - and Brian Dettmer (image via Urban Retro Lifestyle) has given us a new take on the genre, with skulls made from melted 1980’s cassette tapes. He’s gone with all white, with albums of various hardcore and death metal bands.
Fume filled fun!
And - speaking of crafty - here’s an example of a cassette tape wallet, a nifty cassette tape ipod nano cover (one sided, so you can easily change songs and adjust volume), and a fab cassette tape lamp. You can easily make these yourself with a bit of craftiness, or check out the links for more information.
