New Old-School Computer Techniques

One of our favorite new tricks came via TutorialKit.com a while back - a step-by-step approach to turning any photo into Commodore 64 pixel art. (You know, the type of detailed hacker art that was installed to announce the hacking of Frogger, or Pitstop 2 perhaps. Later it was incorporated into the title pages and cover art of many games, including Bruce Lee and Afterburner - leading to great disappointment when the clunky graphics of the originals loaded.

Long were the days when we marveled at the patience of these overlooked geniuses of early personal computer art. Granted, usually their range was limited to bikini models to black clad ninjas, and to watch them meant a major delay and slowing down of loading of our favorite games. But now at least the wonder part is over, and the tools are ours. We think that website header art will never be the same again.

If you use this tool to create any pixelated masterpieces - post a link to them below for all to see.
